MassDEP's free testing for PFAS in private well drinking water

Free Well Water Testing for PFAS

MassDEP’s free testing for PFAS in private well drinking water is drawing to a close.  The last day we will be accepting applications is April 15, 2022.

There are limited slots still available in your town.  Please share this information in any way you are able in order to afford your residents access to this limited time opportunity for free analysis of PFAS.

On social media we have been using this language:

LAST CHANCE TO APPLY: April 15, 2022

MassDEP is offering private well owners an opportunity to receive free testing for PFAS compounds in communities where 60% or more of the consumers use private wells (see list below).

PFAS are a family of man-made chemicals found in a wide range of consumer products, such as non-stick cookware and stain- and water-resistant materials. Negative effects of PFAS on human health and development are a growing concern.

Attached are our graphics (one that includes the list of towns, one that does not).

Please note that the results of our study will summarized in a report which will be available on MassDEP’s PFAS webpage You may follow progress of the project in our Public Story Map with results (updated biweekly): all participants will receive an email when the final report is issued and how to view it.

Thank you for your help in spreading the word.
